Misprinted Ballots
Monday moring, August 21st, I identifed errors in the ballots mailed out by Spokane County. Below is a short summary of the issue, stories on it, as well as maps to identify if you have been affected my the mistake. This is a breaking story and I will post updates on my Facebook account first.
Spokane County Elections department head Ryan Doss confirmed over the phone yesterday an error in printing some ballots. The error, coincidentally enough they left STA Prop 1 off for some areas and added it on other ballots.
Monday morning I identified the issue and notified Spokane County Elections office. An office supervisor initially told me the STA Board and set the boundaries and ballots were correct. I showed here the map below from the Spokane County Ele
ctions Office, which is a source document, to explain what the error was. She then told me her supervisor would contact me with more information.
It wasn't until yesterday afternoon and several more calls to the elections off that Mr. Doss called and confirmed the error. Specifically, he acknowledged the west half of precinct 6038, which is in Colbert off the Hwy 395 Hatch Road exit, north of Midway Rd and east of Hatch Road (see close up map) as well as a handful of voters in precinct 9005 in south Spokane County who incorrectly received the ballot measure.
Ryan claims they have reviewed all the other precincts and there are no other errors. My suggestion? Trust but verify. Details on how to do it below.
Ryan Doss stated ballots are being reprinted and mailed to affected voters. He also said a press release will be published. I asked for him to send it to me, but as of yet, I have not received anything nor is there information on the Spokane County Elections website. I did just find a Spokesman-Review story that I've listed below.
Election integrity is a major concern for many in our country, state and local area. The problem and how it has been handled do not inspire confidence, but I'll leave that to your judgement to decide.
In the near term, look closely at your primary ballot to decide if it really includes everything it is supposed to. If you are in the 6th Legislative District, vote Alan Nolan for State Representative, Position 1 if you want an elected official who is watching out for the integrity of our elections.
Double checking your ballot
1a. You can use the link to the attached map and zoom/scroll to check your home of record on the map. If you are in the green area, STA Prop 1 should be on your ballot. If you are, vote no.
1b. Alternately, use the find my precinct link and enter your address. Precinct will be shown in the purple box on lower right. You can then go to the map, type the precinct number into the search bar (eye glass in upper right), hit return and should jump to it on the map. Then look for your home of record on the map. If it is in the green section, you should have STA Prop 1 and the next step if to vote no.
2. If you identify your ballot is not correct, DM me please. While I give credit to Ryan Doss for acknowledging the error and believe his statement that they have gone back to verify for more issues. Nonetheless, he is brand new to the position and his subordinate attempted to pass off blatantly wrong information, so I do have some concerns.
Ballots are due by August 4th. Please do your research and cast your ballot to help right the course here in our community and our state.
